Drinking Games to Play on the Golf Course

Whether it’s alone or with friends, we all love to play a round of golf. There are several ways to make your golf game more exciting. Placing bets on holes can be fun, but what’s more fun than a drinking game? Sure a rough day at the course can make you want to hang out at the 19th hole for a while, but trying out a drinking game with your friends while you play can make you enjoy the experience much more.
Whether it's alone or with friends, we all love to play a round of golf. There are several ways to make your golf game more exciting. Placing bets on holes can be fun, but what's more fun than a drinking game? Sure a rough day at the course can make you want to hang out at the 19th hole for a while, but trying out a drinking game with your friends while you play can make you enjoy the experience much more.

Each of these games can be altered to fit what you and your friends can handle. If it recommends a shot, then you can do a shot, drink a beer or even just take a drink if the other options are too much for you. Either way, the goal is to have fun drinking with your friends while playing a round of golf. Here are a few ideas for golf drinking games that you and your friends can try next time you play around.

Beer Bogey Drinking Game

One of the golf drinking games that my friend like to play is called Beer Bogey. This game requires that players take a shot for every stroke over par on a hole. Now, if 7 is a regular score on your card, you might want to consider a drink for every stroke instead of a shot, but it’s up to you. This could also be changed to the highest score on a hole takes a shot, but then the better golfers might not get to drink quite as much. Keep in mind there can be many variations to these golf course drinking games so that you have fun, but don’t end up in the hospital after 18.

Playing golf games when drinking can be a lot of fun, but it isn’t going to be quite af much fun for players who aren’t evenly matched. That is where the game Hazard Play comes in. This game has any golfer that lands in the bunker or water take a shot or a drink. This can be a lot of fun for larger groups because it is not score-specific. Even the best golfers in the world spend some time in the sand, so this gives even higher scoring players a fair chance.

The pin Challenge Drinking Game

Another fun option is closest to the pin challenge. On any par 3, closest shot to the hole wins, and everyone else takes a shot. One variation of this game could be that players have to reach the green in regulation or they take a shot. This would give other players a fair chance especially for larger groups.

Even and Odd

For players who don’t want to base drinking off of scores or strokes, another fun drinking game is Even and Odd. This game has players randomly select between evens and odds, and once they make their choice, they would drink one beer on either every even or odd numbered hole. This creates a more fair game for players because it doesn’t matter how well you play, everyone will be drinking. But the trick is that their beer must be finished before they finish the hole. If they don’t finish their beer in time, then they will have to drink 2 before they finish the next hole. So the key to this game is to not be the forgetful friend.

Mulligan

One of my favorite golf course drinking games is called Mulligan. This game allows a mulligan to any player willing to take a shot. Each player can use as many mulligans as they want as long as they take a shot for every one they use. This game is a much easier way to limit yourself because you are not subject to more drinking unless you choose it. However, players should consider what is going to be worse for their golf game: taking another shot or just playing your ball from where it is.

Keep in mind that golf drinking games should be played safely, and players should drink in moderation. Playing golf games when drinking can be more fun, but it can also be dangerous. So choose the right game for you and your friends, while keeping in mind everyone’s talent levels. Beer Bogey might not be for your group if everyone normally scores in the 100s.

Make sure you are staying hydrated and taking care of your clubs and the course around you. We wouldn’t want one of these fun drinking games to get you banned from your favorite local course. Also, make sure you have a designated driver to get you home safely. There are many other fun golf games out there for you and your friends to try out. An ice cold cider is refreshing on a summer afternoon, while a hearty stout or whiskey will warm you up faster than nestling by a fire on a cold winter’s night.
