How To Increase Libido: 9 Foods That Boost Libido Instantly

We’ve all been in the awkward situation of getting to a climax point with a new lady and nothing happens.

Clothes start coming off and the attention focus goes down-low – is it proud and ready?

This isn’t a common occurrence, in fact, some research indicates that around 1 in 3 guys experience sexual dysfunction on a regular basis.

How do you make sure that you are not only enjoying your sex life but also living a healthy and well-balanced life?

In a lot of cases (we’d estimate more than 1 in 3) it comes down to increasing your libido.

Wondering what to eat before sex to increase your libido and sexual pleasure? Before we get into the nitty-gritty of how you can increase libido it is important to understand what it is – and why you would even bother focusing on it.

What is Libido?

Libido is a person’s sexual desire or sexual drive.

The higher the libido – the more you will feel motivated to get to business.

Libido is a little complicated though.

I mean, think about it – when you see a hot girl walking down the street you don’t get a boner (we hope). On the other hand, if that same girl was up on you in a private situation the outcome would be very different.

Libido is the mechanism by which your body associates sexual attraction for sexual action.

Many factors play into this mechanism – factors such as biological, psychological, social and even physical attraction.

Above many of the factors that influence your libido, the easiest to control are your diet and exercise – and that’s what we’re here for.

Let’s break down the most effective ways you can naturally increase your libido through diet and exercise.

How to Increase Libido Through Diet and Exercise

What Happens if Libido is Low?

The fancy word for low sex drive is incontinence.

This basically means you are unable to perform at your best.

Remember, this is super common and many guys experience this at one time or another.

We’re not necessarily talking about the “ed” word (erectile dysfunction) – we’re more referring to the odd case where you are not stimulated as much as you want to be.

What happens when your libido is low? Here are four common symptoms of low libido:

1. Low Sex Drive

Low sex drive – or the lack of ability to feel stimulated during sex is one of the most common signs that you may have low libido.

2. Poor Sleep Quality

Waking up every 2-3 hours in the middle of the night? Can’t fall asleep at a normal time? Most people tend to not get enough sleep.

Poor sleep is not only a sign that your libido may be low, but it is also one of the common causes of low sex drive (double whammy).

3. General Fatigue

Tired, sore, drained out all the time? Many guys who report having low libido could have general fatigue. This can be caused by the lack of sleep but it could also be caused by stress or a potential hormonal imbalance in the body causing low libido.

4. Prolonged Recovery

From a fitness standpoint, you may experience prolonged recovery. In other words, you workout on Monday and it takes you 2 or more days to recover effectively.

It’s hard to pin-point why recovery takes longer, but for most guys, it is attributed to their sleep quality and nutrition input.

Good food and good sleep generally total good recovery.

Instead of fearing (because of low libido) the eventual clothes-shedding encounter with your new tinder date, use some proven and tested ways to increase libido.

How to Naturally Increase Libido Through Diet and Exercise

Although there are some popular (but expensive) medical treatments for those who experience low libido, there are some very effective options by improving your diet and exercise plan.

Why Would Diet and Exercise Improve Libido?

Most men who experience low libido are overweight and undernourished.

It sounds like a strange contrast but it basically means that many guys are eating foods that are high in calories, but low in nutrient density.

This is paired with a half-hazard exercise plan thrown together on weekends and the results speak for themselves.

Diet plays a massive role in hormone balance.

Nutritious foods contain plenty of vitamins and minerals which contribute to a balance in the body.

A lack of balance leaves your metabolism and hormones out to dry and you’re left shovelling caffeine down your throat to feel energized for the day or a workout.

Diet & Nutrition for Libido

Healthy and wholesome foods as close to their natural state are always your best options.

Many naturopathic doctors (doctors that don’t prescribe medication) will generally recommend a diet that is whole-food and very similar to the Mediterranean diet or a plant-based diet when it comes to holistic health and optimal well being.

In order to increase your libido through diet you should focus on:

Limiting Alcohol Consumption

We hate to put this one on the list (because we all love a brew here and there) but it is important that you limit – not eliminate – your alcohol consumption.

Most alcohol is relatively high in calories and low in nutritional density, which can lead to weight gain – especially when paired with popular high-fat bar-foods.

Try to limit your alcohol consumption to the equivalent of 1 glass of wine per night – or about 1 pint of lager.

Eating High Fiber Foods

Remember grandma saying “eat your fruit and vegetables” – well, she was right.

Fruit and vegetables are not only highly nutritious while being low in total calories, but they are also your body’s main source of dietary fiber.

Dietary fiber helps to clean the body – flushing unwanted materials and improving digestion, blood profile and many other factors.

TOP TIP: Beets are highly nutritious root vegetables which are very effective for improving blood flow and blood quality (essential for getting blood to your member).

FDA recommendations for fiber intake is about 30-40g per day so pump up your fruit and vegetable consumption.

Source Potassium Containing Foods

Bananas and potatoes are famous for containing potassium and many people eat them because potassium can help to alleviate muscle fatigue – but did you know that it can also help with libido?

Potassium can naturally aid in testosterone synthesis.

Since many men who experience low libido are generally low in testosterone – eating a banana and increasing your potato consumption (real potatoes, not french fries) can help.

A Handful A Day

Nuts and seeds are the most concentrated sources of vitamins and minerals mother earth created.

When it comes to increasing libido – nothing beats pumpkin seeds and pistachios.

Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc (especially if you eat them with the shell) and pistachios are high in nitrates – which can aid in improving blood quality and overall blood flow.

Do yourself a favour and start eating a handful of pumpkin seeds and pistachios daily.

Limit Saturated & Trans Fats

No one likes to hear this – but the common comfort foods you eat are the real problem.

High-fat foods like bacon, t-bone steaks, and baked goods are high in saturated fats and trans fats – which are terrible for your libido.

Not only are saturated fats and trans fats correlated with obesity and heart disease, but they may also have a negative effect on your overall libido and sex drive.

In contrast to popular belief, the guy ordering the salad with extra beets and seeds is going to be the one having the beefed-up erection when clothes start coming off.

TOP TIP: Still want the taste of meat without the saturated fats? Shellfish, salmon and many other fish are high in Vitamin D – an effective supplement for boosting natural testosterone production and they are generally lower in fats.

Supplementation

Natural remedies have long been used to stimulate sex drive and improve overall libido.

We’re not talking about fluffy-dust – many have been proven by scientific research to be effective.

The most effective natural supplements are:

Zinc

Zinc is widely found in cells across the body and has a very important role in cell division and cell growth. Sounds complicated, but zinc has been proven to be an effective natural remedy for low testosterone in men.

The RDA (recommended daily allowance) for zinc is 8-11mg/day or about the equivalent of eating 100-150g of pumpkin seeds.

Magnesium

One of the best natural supplements to get your member standing proud, magnesium is essential in the metabolism (creation) of nitric oxide.

The RDA for magnesium is about 300-400mg/day. This can be achieved through diet (4 cups of cooked spinach) or through supplementation.

Vitamin B6

The family of B-Vitamins are essential for energy metabolism, but a lack of B6 has a true deficiency which leads to low amino acid tryptophan in the body.

There’s no other way to put this – low tryptophan can lead to a loss of libido.

Make sure you’re getting enough B6 by supplementing or eating cashews, fish and soybeans.

D-Aspartic Acid

Human trials have shown inconsistent results – but some research indicates that the consumption of d-aspartic acid may improve blood testosterone levels, which is essential for libido.

Tribulus Terrestris

Our ancestors have been eating plants to get jiggy for some time now – but Tribulus Terrestris is one of the originals.

Although Tribulus does not directly impact testosterone, it does help to influence greater sex drive and overall libido.

Vitamin D

Emerging research shows astounding benefits for maintaining healthy Vitamin D levels in the body – but it’s hard to get enough. Unless you’re going to stand outside for hours or constantly eat Vitamin D rich fish, getting what you need can be tricky.

The RDA for Vitamin D is around 600-800 UI depending on your age.

Considering that Vitamin D can protect endothelial cells from oxidative stress and improve erections – getting what you need through a supplement is a smart move.

If you’ve been having… “difficulties” – getting everything you need is essential.

Consult a qualified professional, try one supplement at a time and monitor results to find what works best for you.

You can also take another route by using a complete supplement that contains many of the effective libido enhancing supplements we describe.

Whatever your choice, understand that a supplement is supplemental to your health. Combine your supplement with the awesome nutrition and fun workout routines.

Exercise to Improve Libido

Although exercise may not have a direct impact on your libido, research indicates that improving your overall body composition can improve sexual drive and sexual performance.

We’re not saying go out and start training every day but there are two popular methods for improving body consumption through exercise.

Aerobic Conditioning

Going for a morning jog could be one of the best morning routines to improve your overall health and libido.

In fact, a 2018 study describes aerobic conditioning to be the most effective method for reducing body fat and improving cardiorespiratory fitness – key factors in improving sexual performance.

The study found that an exercise program tailored to aerobic exercise improved symptoms of erectile dysfunction.

If you’re new to running be sure to start off slow, get plenty of sleep and fill your post-workout recovery meal with nutrient-dense foods.

Strength Training

Aka – lifting weights.

Strength training is one of the most fun and effective ways to naturally boost endorphins in the body and improve your overall body composition.

It doesn’t have to be strict weight training tough – it can be as simple as getting into some bodyweight calisthenic movements.

Anything is better than nothing and this will surely help put a smile on your next date’s face when she sees your chizzled body.

Most intercourse comes with extra spice – and we thought it best to give you two extra pieces of advice to increase libido.

Decrease Stress/Anxiety

We’re sure your doctor, family and friends have already harassed you by saying you need to decrease your stress – but they’re right.

Stress and anxiety have a huge impact on your overall hormonal balance and libido.

If you get into the special moment and your head is somewhere else the outcome may be disappointing for both of you.

Unwind, take time to yourself, go on vacation and try your best to live in the present.

Many men want to spend time in Las Vegas to unwind and be entertained. They visit this place to attend friend get together and bachelor’s parties. Moreover, they want to meet strangers, build new friendships, and discover themselves.

These encounters also pave the way to meeting beautiful ladies, allowing them to enjoy the company and become more relaxed and confident in the art and science of lovemaking after mutual agreement between two consenting adults.

Such unique social experiences can help people boost their libido levels in the most exciting ways. They can apply the innovative ways they learned from such experiences and become more expressive, open, and creative in lovemaking and as better partners.

Other ways to unwind are playing sports and musical instruments. You and your partner can also attend couples camping and nature trip expeditions, a couple’s spa session, or a sauna. The happiest couples see professionals, such as human sexuality counselors, life coaches, gynecologists, and spiritual leaders, to nurture all aspects of their relationship.

Prioritize Sleep

We said it before and we will say it again – sleep is ultra important for overall libido. In fact, most of your natural testosterone production will occur when you are sleeping.

Ensuring you are getting enough sleep means your body will have enough time to appropriately secrete blood testosterone – assisting your libido and sex drive.

If you’re unfamiliar with what it is, libido is a term that refers to how powerful or weak your sexual drive is. For most people, their libido is somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. At times it may be stronger, while other times it may be weaker.

Why I Don’t Feel Like Having Sex? 11 Secret Libido Killers Revealed

If your sex drive is different than that of your partner, it is really hard to deal with the situation. There is definitely no specific number of times you should have sex every single week but whenever you feel that sex is not as enjoyable as it used to be, it is possible that there is something wrong.

Unfortunately, your sex drive can be lower due to so many different reasons. Many of them are not known by people so huge problems appear because of something that could so easily be fixed.

The most important thing to remember is that you should go to the doctor whenever you feel that your sex drive is lower than it used to be. There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting checked out. It could actually save your relationship.

While countless reasons can be mentioned, let’s focus on those that most people do not know much about since they are the ones that get ignored and usually have a really simple fix.

You Are Very Tired

Many will tell you that this is just a cliché that is used by women when they do not want to have sex but this is completely incorrect. The over-working has an impact on your sexual life! Various other studies showed similar results.

Unfortunately, there is no real solution to this problem. If you feel too tired, your sex drive will not go up, no matter what you do. It is vital that you get as much sleep as the body need and that you are properly rested in order to have a good sex drive.

You Are Really Stressed

Stress is often called “the silent killer”. It turns out it can also be the killer of your sex drive. If work pressure is way too high or there are various bad things happening in your life, cortisol levels go up. This is caused by stress.

The big problem with cortisol is that high levels suppress the production of different hormones, including the really important testosterone. Reducing stress is a sure-thing when it comes to increasing sex drive and it has many other extra benefits you are surely going to enjoy.

Unbalanced Hormone Levels

Speaking about hormones, there are numerous related situations in which sex drive goes down, for both men and women. For instance, those with low testosterone levels almost always have a lower sex drive. Fortunately, the doctor can easily test this and see when hormones are not balanced.

The big problem appears when hormone levels are unbalanced due to unnatural reasons. For instance, when a woman takes birth control pills, switches them or just stops, sex drive can go down. For men, anything that would reduce testosterone levels can lead to a much lower sex drive than before.

The good news is that you can always talk to the doctor to identify unbalanced hormone levels. Medication is available for those in need and it is highly effective.

Depression

If a person’s mental health is not ok, not much is done to begin with. Sex is usually the last thing on someone’s mind. That’s where you need to focus as well to give her a better chance for reaching an orgasm and maintaining her libido in general. Those that are experiencing depression symptoms or symptoms of numerous other mental illnesses have big problems wanting to have sex in general.

It has to be added that when you take anti-depressants, sex drive will be affected. In such a situation it is much more important to deal with the symptoms that you experience than to get your sex drive back. Once again, the doctor can easily tell you if the medication you take can lower sex drive or not. Continue treatment and get depression under control before you think about having sex.

You Are Dehydrated

There are so many reasons why you should drink as much water as the body needs. One of them is that a lack of water leads to a lower sex drive. If hydration is not at proper levels, the common symptom that appears is a headache. The headache can be so strong that you do not want to have sex.

In the event that you just do not feel like having sex and you feel your mouth dry, or any other sign of dehydration, the best thing you can do is start to drink more water all throughout the day. This might be a trick that you will end up recommending to your friends.

Keep in mind that there are numerous reasons we find daily why we do not drink as much water as the body needs. Deal with them and actually stay hydrated. For instance, if your tap water is not safe, contact a Fix It Right Melbourne plumber to get it fixed. If nothing can be done about your water supply, buy bottled water.

Imbalanced Thyroid

If thyroid levels are imbalanced or you suffer from a disease that affects your thyroid, it is a certainty that your sex drive will be negatively affected. The metabolism is affected by hypothyroidism. This slows down sexual hormone production. Thyroid levels do have to be tested from time to time so you are sure levels are as high as they should be.

You Do Not Exercise

If your blood is pumping thanks to a good workout, you also get a naturally higher sex drive. Exercise lacks always decrease the natural desire to have sex. If you are physically inactive, you have to deal with increased mental stress and more weight.

This causes hormone production changes. Both estrogen and testosterone can be affected by a lack of physical activity. Sex initiative is really hard to find when you feel too tired. Exercising is always a great way to increase sex drive and is highly underestimated. Fit people have much better sex!

Your Diet Is Unbalanced

Everyone loves some junk food from time to time but if your diet is not balanced, you might end up faced with lower sex drive than what you had in the past. Salty and fried foods will make you feel bloated. If this is the case, you will not actually think about sex.

You need to be sure that your diet is balanced. This is definitely going to increase sex drive. At the same time, there are foods that will help you more than others, like watermelon. Also, avoiding some, like corn dogs, is much more effective than others.

You Do Not Feel Good About Yourself

If you are not comfortable with yourself, there is a huge possibility you will not really want to have sex. Self-image is so much more important than what people initially think when it comes to sex life. If you harbor an attitude of low self-worth, self-esteem or there is a lack of self-love, you end up losing interest in sex.

Contrary to what some may think, the human mind plays a huge role in sex drive. Whenever you are limiting yourself or you think about you in a negative way, you end up feeling that you are not actually worthy to have sex. Many other activities that feel satisfying and stimulating will be stopped.

If you do find yourself thinking some negative thoughts about your body and about you, the best thing that you can do is to discuss this with your partner. A little discussion easily helps you to become more comfortable.

You should also think about what you can do in order to feel sexy again. In some situations, it is even possible that you will need to book appointments with a therapist to regain that confidence that you lost.

Your Needs Are Not Met

When we have sex, we want to enjoy ourselves and we want to feel good about it. Every single individual has some needs that have to be satisfied. When these needs are not met by the partner, you no longer feel motivated. You just do not want to have sex since you do not feel that you get something out of it.

The solution to this is practically knowing yourself. Think about what the partner should do and what actually makes you excited when it comes to sex. Then, discuss this with the partner and see if this can be done.

Talk it out to find ways in which both of you can enjoy yourselves when having sex. You may also consider visiting a sex therapist or going to couple therapy. Both are known to be really good at increasing sex drive.

You Are Taking New Medication

Sometimes, bad things happen and the doctor tells us to take some medicine. This can unintentionally have a chilling effect on sex drive. Besides anti-depressants, ACE inhibitors and Beta blockers are known to lower sex drive.

If your sex drive is now lower and it used to be better before you started taking some pills, look at the prospect to see if there are some unwanted side effects listed. Your doctor can also tell you if you can expect a lower sex drive after taking the pills that are prescribed

Does over-working in the office impact your sexual life?

Growing number of population is suffering from low libido (lack of sexual urge) because they are stressed with too much work.

Do you remember the time when your relationship was so sensual and passionate, that music flew in the air to your moves? Or do you not?

We live in one of the most sexually modern times of human history. From dating apps or contraceptive pills, advancements in technologies have opened a wild range of new possibilities. From increasing acceptance of homosexuality to polyamory, the sexual revolution has matured, and the society has shifted with it. Advancement in technology with the introduction of mHealth has created a technological revolution using mobile phones and wireless devices for medical and healthcare applications. In a recent report, published by Progressive Markets, titled “Global mHealth Market – Opportunity and Forecast, 2014-2025,” the market is expected to reach $ 312214.4 million in 2025, growing at a CAGR of 36.48% during the forecast period, 2018-2025.

Despite such modernization, studies suggest that we’re actually having less sex now than we use to decades earlier. On average, no of times Americans had sex has declined by 15% from the late nineties. In the case of Britishers, people in the age group of 16-44years had sex just under 5 times per month, which is a significant drop from previous 6.2. Another survey in Australia says that heterosexual couples were having sex on average 1.4 times per week, which is again a noteworthy drop from 1.8 previously. The situation is perhaps most severe in Japan, where recent data has shown that 46% of women and 25% of men between the ages of 16 and 25 ‘despise’ sexual contact.

Despite what we learn from romantic films or novels, practically, a good sex life takes some serious efforts. The fictional portrayals of love seldom reflect the complexities of real life, such as a healthy work-life balance, the dreaded dry spells, stress management— the list can go on.

From tight deadlines at work to overdose of technology, here are few common things from your day-to-day work life that could be affecting your sex life:

Too much stress

Stress can be ranked as the number one slayer in low sexual desire. From worrying about promotions, project deadlines or that lucrative salary hike, work-induced stress can lead to significantly low libido. Dealing with so many worries can impact your sex life, aggravating the problem by possibly adding-up relationship issues.

It’s not just about the big factors of stresses, such as financial uncertainties or missing on an opportunity, that contributes to a low sexual urge. The trivial, daily stresses such as running late, not eating right, trying too much to manage time, and constantly squabbling your partner can also affect your health and sexual energy.

Working through the night

Despite open-mindedness and flexibility towards work in our generation, our jobs seem to completely take over our lives. Work hours are constantly high among people across the western world, with stats showing that a full-time employee in the US works for 47 hours per week on an average. It may seem logical to blame on the fatigue and stress that lead to low libido.

However, if you’re sending emails or scrolling through social media late through the night, it can disrupt your sleep-cycle and lower your sexual urge. These electronic activities rev-up your brain just when it should be winding down. Also, lack of sleep can create an imbalance among hormones like dopamine and serotonin, that can interfere with sexual functionality of your body.

Business uncertainties

God forbid if you’re working for a business that is constantly wobbling! Or if you own a business that seems to be on the verge of going into administration every now and then! The stress that is generated by such havoc is likely to produce more and more ‘anxiety chemicals’ in your body – like adrenaline. The physiological effects of those ‘anxiety chemicals’ lead to a lower sex drive and makes it difficult for you to ‘perform’ in the act. Particularly, 6 in 10 men suffer from erectile dysfunction caused by extreme stress at work.

Working in an uncertain environment can be worse for your mental health compared to having no job, and this outspreads to one’s sexual life as well.

Tight Schedules and Busy Lifestyles

Life in the fast lane can cause exhaustion, anxiety, and depression in people – which may adversely affect their sex lives. Many of us find ourselves busier than we ever thought we could be, in our wildest dreams. A busy schedule means a busy mind, and a busy mind can hardly find itself in a good mood “to do it”. With break-neck competition in businesses and corporates, some people start working early in the morning at six and carry on for more than 12 hours. People even tend to skip lunch and many of them commute for long hours at either end of the day. When we see people leaving for work at 4:30 am and gets back home at 8:30om, troubles with their sex life would seem as obvious as clogs due to floods!

Being constantly busy can literally drain your energy and make even the idea of sex totally unappealing and exhausting. You might find it difficult to prioritize sex in your packed schedule and if would just linger like another chore on your mile-long “to-do list”.

No matter what your job, excessive work can also cause many sexual difficulties such as inability to get or maintain an erection, premature ejaculation or inability to climax. You might find it difficult to relax in bed and your partner may show anger/disappointment towards you because of these work-induced symptoms.

If there’s a huge work-life misbalance and work is affecting your love life disastrously, you need to do something about it real fast.

What changes I can make for proper work-love balance?

Besides the hypothetical and luring solution of giving up your job and maybe stuffing your fridge with foods that boost libido, there are no magical answers. However, everyone can make simple changes in their routine – in spite of how busy they are. These changes ought to bring balance into your lifestyle and help manage your mental, physical and sexual health.

1. Be honest about your desires

Sexual problems can cause aggression and lead to loneliness if you don’t share your concern with your partner. Some people do not have any desire for sex on weekdays as a result of exhaustion at work. Instead, they need their loving companion to snuggle-up and listen to what has happened in their day. If people remain non-vocal and ever discuss this with their partner, it can cause the other person to feel rejected and dissatisfied.  Since are typically the result of stress or anxiety originating in the brain, both the partners need to be in it together. Simply sharing the cause of stress, depression, and anxiety with someone is often enough for recovery.

2. Give your partner some attention

Honesty is not always enough to fix a struggling relationship unless you make your partner feel special by giving-out some real attention. The only way to manage this is to value your time and never over-commit at work. Prioritize certain activities in your routine and free-up some time for your partner. Your partner needs to feel important and affirmed – despite the lack of sex. So, make sure you spend adequate time on kissing and cuddling.

3. Keep track of your conversations and behaviour

People tend to induce a certain behaviour in themselves from the environment they spend their most times. Often, people take their workplace language and stress into their home and that can sometimes be abrupt, rude and terse. For example, stop giving out instructions to your beloved in the bed!!

Use your commute time to relax and unwind. Get into a softer skin before you reach home. You need to change gear from machine-mode to human-mode if you wish for a healthy romantic life at home.

4. Exercise regularly

It has been observed that people who exercise regularly tend to have better stamina and much better sex-life compared to those who don’t. Physical activity triggers physiological reactions and stimulates the release of hormones that boost libido. Also, exercising regularly stimulates the growth of blood vessels while increasing the blood flow to genital areas.

Try to find that 30-odd minutes in your schedule to fit in a workout or a swim session. If running and swimming seem difficult, the try to get off the bus or train two-stop early and walk your way to the office. Like the office, take the stairs instead of lifts and maintain a desk routine to exercise.

5. Make sex special

Getting in the mood for sex is not as easy as unlocking your smartphone using a fingerprint. Do not to jump in right after the frustrating board meeting. Researchers suggest that very busy people have a habit of adapting to a set sexual pattern. Try to vary your lovemaking. They find a boring and unimaginative routine and then they’re stuck with it for years.

Try to be in a relaxed frame of mind before you do make love. Use relievers like meditation, yoga, laughter, breathing exercises, and progressive muscle relaxation to reduce stress and tension. Your partner definitely does not want to feel like the substitute for quick masturbation to reduce stress. Partners want to feel loved and cared so talk, eat or shower together to spice things up and ensure mindblowing orgasms!

It’s a common observation for most couples that, after a while, the frequency of those middle-of-the-night sexual engagement—not to mention racy text messages and lusty daydreams—began to dwindle. While the dwindling of excitement is completely normal in any relationship, if you’re having sex less than once a month, your relationship could be, or probably is, at the brink of stability.
